Scenes from Paradise

My apologies for my brief absence from posting; I’ve been traveling for the last two weeks and have not had as much time (read: any) to write as I would like.  First I visited my best friend in Austin for a few days, then I hopped back to the Bay Area, sandwiched in my work week in two days, and then left for a vacation with my whole extended family in Mexico.  I didn’t have any big expectations for my family trip, but I was totally blown away by the the natural beauty down in Cabo San Lucas, and I think it may have redefined my idea of paradise.  It now includes:

.

Sun-filled, wide and inviting porticos, rising green palms, and endless blue waters…

(Oh, and an infinity pool.  Definitely an infinity pool.)

.

Sunny, perfect days to wander about with my cousins and play on the shore.  To be able to leap from the scorching expanse of sand to the cooling waters, to wade in and clamber up upon the rocks and back, to to dig one’s feet into the surf and feel the waves rush past.

.

It includes a balcony to eat breakfast from and  watch the sun rise every morning:

.

…and a perch on the beach where one can watch the sun set.  And before that, from which to see my nephew frolic about, and where you can settle in and  start and finish a great book:

.

In paradise, there’s a continuously undulating ocean of sapphire blues and crystalline greens, with waters so clear you can see fish swarm about you from the surface:

.

And (maybe my very favorite part of my trip) an opportunity to set rescued baby sea turtles free, to watch them slowly crawl into the waves and begin their lives:

.

I landed at the San Francisco airport earlier this week to find it raining on me.  I was a bit surprised at the sudden change of weather, even compared to before when I left, but I was grateful that if I had to say goodbye to summer, that I could experience the end of it in a truly grand last hurrah among the perfect, paradisical beaches of Cabo.

I love paradise as you are defining it, as well. Cabo is one of my favorite places. Great pics! And I, too, am glad we have cooler weather here in the SF Bay Area! Cheers!

So beautiful! That sounds like my idea of paradise, too! Palms, gorgeous water, and a thick book. Those turtles are darling! <3 the photo of your nephew.

mmm…I love standing in shallow waves with a soft flowy dress- one of those little tactile wonders! Such a beautiful way to finish summer with a blast of sunshine, waves, and sand!

Beautiful pictures, though I find myself curiously unnerved by the book and wave photos in such close proximity!!

Gorgeous! Today was the first really cold day of autumn, so I’m feeling wistful looking at those photos. Glad to hear you had a great time.

Hi everyone! Thanks for the nice words :) And for those wondering where I stayed, it was at the Hilton.

What beautiful photos, thanks for sharing! It looks like you had such a perfect vacation :) Those baby turtles are the most adorable sight I’ve ever seen! It’s great that you were able to say goodbye to summer by soaking in the sun at such gorgeous beaches; it’s been cold and rainy all week here in the Bay Area!

Hi, I have just stumbled upon your blog, but love your taste in Kate Spade and Anthropologie. Love those brands too! Great pix!!!

Breathtaking photos, Anjali! so glad you were able to sneak away to cabo. Some day, I’d love to go there. You look completely satisfied with your toes digging into the sand and a huge smile on your face!

Never commented before, but thougth I would because I LOVE cabo. We went there for our honeymoon and stayed at the Hilton, which I think is where you also were based on your pics. We were also blown away from the beauty of the beaches, and the beauty of the people. They were the sweetest people I’ve ever come across. Nothing beats the tranquility of cabo wabo.
