Splendid Shirt, Anthropologie Sailboat Skirt, kate spade new york kylie heels
.
Today is Everybody, Everywear‘s Mixed Prints day! Since I’ve been enjoying indiscriminately pairing stripes with everything lately anyway, I was all too happy to participate in this month’s challenge. My brand new Sailboat Skirt from Anthropologie with its lovely coastal landscape print and this relatively ancient striped shirt (from my college days, I think it might be 6 years old) provided the right mix of ingredients.
I’m generally not too avid of a pattern mixer — while I believe that they definitely make outfits more fun, my style is not something I would ever term eclectic, and I think print mixing can often get a little too crazy and out there for me personally. I actually never even dabbled in it before I read Shannon’s excellent, encyclopedic guide on the subject, which taught me that there are some easy rules to follow that can ensure that pattern mixes look coordinated, pleasing and elegant. Now whenever I feel like adding an extra punch to my outfit with some dueling prints, I have some reliable rules to follow that allow me to pick out what items I want to pair without too much agonizing. I highly recommend that everyone give it a read if they have not already! And then check out the rest of the blogosphere’s take on mixed prints back at Everybody, Everywear:
