I made the trek to San Francisco to do some shopping today, although it was complete craziness with the Gay Pride parade going on, so I really could have picked a better day. I spent a long time dawdling in various stores but quite admirably bought nothing, although I really considered getting the American Eagle Floral Vines Halter above. This is a rerelease of a piece AE had earlier this spring; it was so popular it almost immediately sold out. It’s unfortunately almost sold out again, and I really should have bought one this time. However, I hesitated since, when I was at Coachella, I saw no less than 17 girls (probably more, I got bored counting after a while) wearing this tank in various colorways. But…it’s so cute, I think I really might not care.
Anyway, it’s okay, I already opened up my wallet this weekend to buy the J.Crew Tiered Crystal Libretto necklace on Saturday. It’s a rare occasion when I unhesitatingly buy an item at full price from J.Crew, but this was totally worth it. I love the vintage feel and Lanvin-style glamour this piece has. It will obviously go well with formal dresses and the like, and you can wear it longer so that the ribbon shows, but I wore it hiked up a little and paired with some everyday outfits. I kind of loved the way it brought out the steely grays in the tank above, and even how it looked with my actual shopping outfit, below.

J.Crew Libretto necklace, Anthropologie Shadowland cardigan, J.Crew racerback favorite tank in peacock, J.Crew city-fit cargos, Steve Maden Afrikka sandals, Balenciaga Day bag
It amped up the turquoise of the top in the best way, and added a little fun and ritz to an outfit that was otherwise almost entirely California casual. I felt really special wearing it, and it solicited a ton of compliments.
Hope all of you had good weekends!!

The necklace looks great on you! I admired it in-store but didn’t think about wearing it with more casual pieces–it’s very chic! I’ve been debating about ordering that AE halter in the blue colorway but am not sure about sizing. Would you mind letting me know how it runs? Again, love your blog! :)
Comment by midwesterncliche June 28, 2009 @ 7:31 pmOh, thank you, you’re very sweet :) The AE tank runs true to size; surprisingly, the small fit me best, which is what I wear normally. I would have thought the juniors sizing meant I would have to go up to at least a medium, but that was too billowy on me.
Comment by goldenmeans June 28, 2009 @ 9:01 pmHahaha yeah, how did that tank end up being the “it” tank of the summer? I mean I love it and I think it’s pretty, but I’m surprised how many people I’ve seen rocking it on the interwebs- especially the hipster types, which I didn’t think shopped at AE.
*is being a cliched little old lady* :D
I love that necklace, it is so gorgeous!
Comment by Chloe June 28, 2009 @ 9:47 pmha, yeah I don’t know why exactly it is *so* popular, especially with hipsters :) i think maybe it’s one of the nicer, cheaper versions of the watercolor trend going around.
Comment by goldenmeans June 28, 2009 @ 11:15 pmThe necklace is so glam!! Love it. And I love you way you ‘casualed’ it.

Comment by amanda June 29, 2009 @ 4:40 pmthank you :) i basically stalk j.crew (and anthropologie) so there are usually no surprises for me there, but finding something nice at AE was a little unexpected for me for sure!

Comment by Francesca July 17, 2009 @ 5:14 pmI got the black/clear one…the gold/blush seemed a little less versatile (but still gorgeous :) ).
